The tuition fees in New Zealand is much lesser compared that of other western countries. You can complete your master’s program for as low as Rs. 10 Lakhs

Tuition Fees in New Zealand (per year, approximate):

    Undergraduate Programs: NZD 25,000–45,000 (INR 12.5–22.5 lakhs).

    Postgraduate Programs: NZD 20,000–37,000 (INR 10–18.5 lakhs).

    PhD: NZD 6,500–9,000 (INR 3.25–4.5 lakhs, same as domestic students).

    Specialized Programs (e.g., medicine): Higher, up to NZD 75,000.

The living expenses in New Zealand in general is much lesser compared to other countries. However, living on campus will be much higher, so most of the student choose off-campus accommodation. The following is the bread down on the accommodation and food expenses per year.

To study in New Zealand, Indian students need a Student Visa. Requirements include:

An offer letter from an NZQA-approved institution.
Proof of sufficient funds (NZD 20,000/year for living expenses).
Valid passport.
English proficiency Tests such as:
IELTS: 5.5–6.5
TOEFL: 79–90
PTE: 43–58 (depending on program).

Health insurance and medical clearance.

Academic transcripts (Class XII for bachelor’s; bachelor’s degree for postgraduate).
For courses under 3 months, a visitor visa may suffice.
Visa fees increased from October 1, 2024, so check Immigration New Zealand for updates.

New Zealand offers two main intakes:

Semester 1: February–March (primary intake, most programs available). Apply by August–November of the previous year.

Semester 2: July (smaller intake, limited programs). Apply by April–May. Some vocational courses have additional intakes in March, April, or May. Rolling intakes are available for flexible start dates, depending on the program. Check specific programs at university website for accurate deadlines.

International students studying here during the academic year are permitted to work only 20 hours per week in part-time jobs.
Students may take full-time jobs during the planned breaks, including during the summer.
The minimum wage per hour has increased to NZD 23.50 from April 2025, this will help students have a more comfortable living while studying.
Students most often choose retail, hospitality or tutoring for part-time jobs.

New Zealand offers a Post-Study Work Visa for up to 3 years, depending on the qualification:

Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD: Eligible for a 3-year visa.

Diploma/Certificate: May qualify for a 1–2-year visa. Graduates can seek employment in high-demand sectors like IT, healthcare, and engineering.
About 95% of graduates find jobs within six months, with 90% in roles relevant to their studies.
The Green List Occupations (85 job roles) enhances permanent residency prospects for eligible graduates.

Yes, graduates can apply for PR, especially if employed in Green List Occupations (e.g., IT, engineering, healthcare). After 5–6 years of work experience, students may qualify under the Skilled Migrant Category. The 3-year post-study work visa provides ample time to secure a job and transition to a work permit or residency. Consult Immigration New Zealand for eligibility.

The majority of universities demand the following language requirements:

IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 80, or PTE 50 for undergraduates.
